The Rev. Matthew Foster Heyd Is Bishop Coadjutor-Elect of the Episcopal Diocese of New York

Following the announcement of the result of the fourth round of balloting at approximately 2:15 p.m. today, in a special election convention at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in Manhattan, the Rev. Matthew Foster Heyd, the rector of the Church of the Heavenly Rest in Manhattan, was declared Bishop Coadjutor-elect of the Diocese of New York.
To be complete, the election must now receive the consent, delivered to the Presiding Bishop, of a majority of Bishops of the Episcopal Church exercising jurisdiction, and the consent of a majority of the standing committees of the dioceses of the Episcopal Church, delivered to the Standing Committee of the Diocese of New York.
The consecration of the Bishop Coadjutor is scheduled for Saturday, May 20th at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine.

Dear People of the Diocese of New York,
I am pleased to share with you the slate of candidates for our upcoming Electing Convention for a Bishop Coadjutor for our Diocese.
The Committee for the Election of a Bishop for The Episcopal Diocese of New York has completed its work of selecting candidates. This Committee submitted these names to the Standing Committee on September 15, 2022 and received their approval for the entire slate.

The Committee to Elect a Bishop has compiled a detailed report of their process as well as further details on each of the candidates, all of which accompany this letter.
The release of this report also marks the beginning of the 25-day petition process which allows nominations by petition, subject to Standing Committee approval and receipt of satisfactory background checks. [Oct. 24: The nomination period is now closed. No nomination packages were received by the deadline.]
I pray that this time of discernment in our diocesan life be one filled with hope, joy, and expectation for all that the future holds for our Diocese.
